Scottish Budget – Why it matters to private care workers.

We need to draw your attention to a critical matter affecting our social care sector in Scotland. Care staff need to be aware that the frustration over pay and conditions is pushing the care sector to the brink of collapse. Your invaluable experience is at risk of being lost if we don’t act urgently.
As we approached the Scottish budget on 19th December, GMB Scotland have written to ministers, fervently demanding the change you deserve. Your commitment is unwavering, and you deserve more than just promises.
It pains us to share that GMB Scotlands recent survey shows that 4 in 5 of you have contemplated leaving in the past year, with 80% expressing concerns about the impact of job stress on your health. The promised minimum hourly pay increase may not be enough to meet your needs.
Private care workers, especially, are facing uncertainties in sick pay and maternity leave. Despite ongoing talks, parity between private and public sectors remains elusive. Financial pressures further jeopardise improvements.
In these challenging times, your dedication shines, and we stand with you. The Scottish Government must prioritise your well-being in the upcoming budget. The future of social care in Scotland relies on your resilience, and we are committed to fighting for your rights.
